Cal-Look Drag Day 2010 - Santa Pod - 23 May

It was a glorious sunny day for the 2nd Santa Pod round of the Cal-Look Drag Day .

Neal Anderson with the black Oval , had previously run 12.95 , at VW Action last year , but the car wasn't revving like it used to at the top end of the rev range . I thought it was probably tired valve springs , as Neal had done plenty of miles on the set used at Action .

I had some of the new CB Performance VW650 valve springs , so while we had the engine out , fitting the solid mounts and stronger clutch for racing , I replaced the tired springs with the new CB items . I was curious to try these springs on a car of known performance .

Well , with just the change of springs , on a very hot day , Neal ran 12.9 , 12.9 , 12.7 , 12.7 , then 12.65 , a couple more 12.7's , then one last 12.64 . This was a new personal best for Neal .

JG54 Greenhearts members Alex Thorn , Pete Morley and myself along with club prospect Dez Bucksey , drove up to Santa Pod with Neal . I was driving Alex Springs gorgeous polar Silver Oval , as he was on holiday and couldn't make it . I wanted to put some miles on his car after recent work .

Friends from the SAS Rennwagens VW Club were also at the event , as well as several members of the DKR VW Drag Racing Club .

It was a scorching day from start to finish , one of the hottest I can ever remember at Santa Pod . A great day out was had by all .
